Sambalpuri, Bomkai and Khandua are famous across India – but Odisha is home to many more remarkable handloom traditions. Here are a few worth knowing.

Berhampuri Patta

Woven in Berhampur in Ganjam district, Berhampuri Patta is a fine silk known for its rich colours and temple-style (phoda kumbha) borders. It has a long association with Lord Jagannath and is recognised with a GI tag. See our Berhampuri Silk collection.

Habaspuri

Named after Habaspur village in Kalahandi district, Habaspuri cotton sarees feature extra-weft motifs like the kumbha (temple), fish and flowers. This traditional weave also carries a GI tag.

Gopalpur Tussar

Woven in Gopalpur near Jajpur, Gopalpur Tussar uses wild tussar silk with a natural golden-beige sheen and a lovely textured feel. It is lightweight and elegant for both festive and formal wear.

Dhalapathar Sarees

From Dhalapathar in Khordha district, these cotton sarees are known for their bold, contrasting borders and simple yet striking designs.

Dongria Kondh Shawl (Kapdaganda)

Hand-embroidered by women of the Dongria Kondh community in the Niyamgiri hills, these shawls feature red, green and yellow motifs on off-white fabric that reflect the community's deep connection with nature.
